After seven years of legal troubles, Italy’s Highest Court found tow famous Italian designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabanna, innocent of tax evasion.
The Italian government has been investigating the duo since 2007 as part of a larger push to control tax evasion in the country.
In June 2013, they were convicted on charges of failing to pay taxes on proceeds of hundreds of millions of euros and were given suspended sentence of 20 months in jail, but in May 2014 they announced their intention to appeal and a court upheld the verdict this past April, reducing the sentence to 18 months.
However, while the ruling cleared them of the tax evasion charges, the designers could still have to pay a fiscal fine to the state. In March last year, Italy’s Tax Commission fined them 343,4 million euros, plus interest.
